The Kids’ Safety Village of Durham Region is designed to deliver age-appropriate safety learning classes to school children from all across Durham Region. Programming is currently aimed at Grades 1 through 6, with a different theme for each grade.
More than 200,000 school aged children from Grades 1 through 8 in Durham Region have attended the Village to learn about keeping safe. Approximately 15,000 students visit the Village each year!
All schools in Durham Region are invited to bring their students to the Village for one of our FREE courses by following the links below and registering online.
The wide-ranging programs are taught by Regional Police Officers and specialists from many fields. These programs include:
grade 1
9-1-1 / Community Helpers
This interactive program introduces students to some of the special people who help in their communities — police, firefighters, and paramedics. Students learn how to identify these people as well as what their jobs entail. The second portion of the program is learning how to identify an emergency and when to call 9-1-1.
Grades 2 & 3
Pedestrian Safety
Children learn Pedestrian Safety rules through a fun presentation and then apply them during a walk through our Safety Village! The second part of their visit will be focussed on either electrical safety, fire safety and prevention or Emergency Medical Services training depending on the day you are attending.
GradES 4 & 5
Bike Safety
Grade 4/5 students will learn about bicycle and helmet safety, which will be put to use by riding bikes and scooters around the streets of the Safety Village.
Grades 7 & 8
Human Trafficking
Using scenarios-based learning, the teen IRL program provides students with tools  to protect themselves from various forms of exploitation and violence.
